Dr David Harney

Veterinarian

David is our Senior Veterinarian and Practice Partner. He is the Superintendent of our hospital. As the leader of our team he enjoys passing on his years of experience and knowledge to our young and upcoming vets.

David graduated at University of Sydney with Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1999. He then worked at Merrylands Veterinary Clinic for 3 years before joining our team in 2003.

David has a keen interest in internal medicine, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. David has built a huge following over the years and is extremely popular amongst all of our clients. He is very passionate about his profession and regularly attends courses and seminars to stay updated with the latest in veterinary medicine and surgery.

David enjoys spending his free time with his wife and 3 children.  His furry family include Crystal the American bulldog and Leroy the domestic shorthair cat.

His other interests include going to the gym, travelling and fishing. 

Dr Edward Humphries

Veterinarian

Ted has been in practice for 45 years.  He is a senior veterinarian and owner of BHVH together with Helma Van Den Heuvel and David Harney since 2002.

Ted can be seen on Tuesday afternoons in BHVH by appointment only. He has had a keen interest in surgical cases especially orthopaedics. He has also treated racing greyhounds extensively during his career.

Ted enjoys all facets of veterinary practice and is also an AQIS accredited veterinarian and deals with all our patients travelling overseas..

At home on the farm in Camden, Ted has a menagerie of animals including dogs, cats, birds and cows. He loves spending  his spare time with his large family and all his animals.

Dr. Edmund Daubaras

Veterinarian

Edmund graduated from the University of Sydney with his Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1985.

After graduation, he worked in Australia at RSPCA Yagoona for 2 years, then travelled extensively throughout UK, Europe, Africa, America and Asia for the next 5 years. Travel was interspersed with locum stints in UK and Australia. Edmund also worked in Singapore at Companion Animal Surgery for 18 years.

Edmund returned to Australia in 2014 and joined our team as one of our senior associates. He brings a large amount of experience with him and we are very happy to have him on our team.

He has a keen interest in working with cats, he also has a special interest in veterinary dermatology. Edmund has stayed current with advances in veterinary medicine and surgery by attending conferences and participating in continuing education in Singapore and now in Australia.

Dr. Kelly Skilbeck

Veterinarian

Kelly joined our vet team back in December 2014 fresh out of Melbourne University. She changed careers from research scientist and University demonstrator in Pharmacology due to her love of animals decided to go back and study vet in Melbourne. Kelly certainly is a high achiever and she is now also accredited in Penn Hip scoring.

Kelly has been a wonderful addition to our vet team bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm. We are very lucky to have her. So much so we decided to offer her a business partnership.

She has two black Labradors, Duke and Percy who are the loves of her life. She also has two beautiful rescue cats named Luna and Klaus.

Kelly's interests include running, cycling, cooking, horse riding and going to the movies.

Dr. Tina Huynh

Veterinarian

Tina joined our team in April 2016 preferring to live and work in the Bankstown area. Although a University of Sydney (BVSc) Graduate, she also has roots from Los Angeles - a longer distance from home!

Tina is enthusiastic about preventative medicine and options for palliative care. She also has a budding interest in small critters and birds.

In her off time, she's an experimental cook, aspiring novelist, and a pet parent to Jackie and Charlie.

Dr. Darlene Lam

Veterinarian

Darlene joined our Veterinary team in August 2017. She graduated at University of Sydney in 2015. Her special interests are soft tissue surgery and internal medicine. We are so lucky to have Darlene she has been a wonderful addition to our fast growing vet team. Darlene enjoys dancing, photography, hiking and learning new languages in her spare time. She shares her home with 2 dogs and 2 cats.

Dr. Jamie Wildner

Veterinarian

Jamie joined our Veterinary team in December 2017 having recently graduated from the University of Sydney. We are so happy to have Jamie on our team she is an enthusiastic talented young vet who is interested in all facets of Veterinary Medicine. Her interests include sport, hiking and going to the beach. She loves both dogs and cats.

Helma Van Den Heuvel

Practice Owner

Helma purchased BHVH in 2002 together with Dr. David Harney and Dr. Ted Humphries. Helma has been the Practice Manager since 2002.

She completed a Business degree in the Netherlands and migrated to Australia with her husband in 1986. She has since completed many additional business and nursing courses over the years.

She is very proud of the fact that BHVH has grown into a large business employing 7 veterinarians and 15 support staff and this has demonstrated itself by winning the Small Business Awards in Pet Care for 10 years running.

Helma is a registered dog breeder with Dogs NSW and also an Authorised Microchip Implanter, so she is able to microchip your pets for you anytime. She is very passionate about her job and dedicated to the welfare of animals.

Helma enjoys spending time with her family and her menagarie of animals on the farm including 2 horses, 3 dogs, 2 cockatiels, chickens, goats and cows.

Belinda

Head Nurse

Belinda began her veterinary nursing career back in 1994 and joined the BHVH team in October 1996. She worked with Dr.Ernie Young for 6 years prior to change of hospital ownership in 2002.

During her time here she has gained an immense amount of experience in medical and surgical nursing. Belinda has a great rapport with all the clients and their beloved pets. She is very passionate about her job and dedicated to the welfare of animals.

Belinda is a qualified Veterinary Nurse having completed her Certificate IV In Veterinary Nursing through Bankstown Tafe along with an Office Administration and Management course. She is dedicated to ongoing training and regularly does short courses to stay up to date with all aspects of her nursing career.

Belinda is a registered dog breeder with Dogs NSW and also an Authorised Microchip Implanter, so she is able to microchip your pets for you anytime.

Belinda has also run our puppy school for over 10 years and she thoroughly enjoys it. She brings years of experience with her and regularly takes part in ongoing training to keep updated. The classes are extremely popular amongst our clients.

Belinda also enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 kids, and their fur family of dogs and cats.

Soula

Receptionist

Soula  joined our team as a veterinary nurse in May 2014. She has been vet nursing since 2000.

She comes with a vast amount of experience which she has gained over the years working in a Northern Beaches practice. We are very happy to have her on our team. She has a keen interest in our feline surgery and medical cases, cat adoption program and customer service.

Soula has grown up with animals her entire life. She is a true animal lover and is very passionate about animal welfare.

In her spare time Soula enjoys spending time with her husband and children. Her fur family includes one domestic long hair cat by the name of J.B.

Kristy

Senior Vet Nurse

Kristy joined our team early 2014 after deciding she needed a career change.  Kristy previously worked as a hairdresser on the Central Coast for many years before deciding to pursue her dream of working with animals.

Kristy is a fully qualified Veterinary Nursing having completed her studies full time at Ultimo Tafe.

Kristy is now a senior nurse at our practice, her knowledge and expertise is fantastic. She has such a relaxed nature and is extremely caring towards our patients and such a vital part of our nursing team. We are so glad she said goodbye to haridressing - so are the animals.

In her spare time enjoys going to music festivals, photography, going to beach and travelling.

Tara

Veterinary Nurse

Tara joined our nursing team in February 2016. She is a passionate animal lover with a caring and compassionate side that is clearly shown day in day out with our patients. Tara is an extremely hard working and valuable asset to our very fast growing team.  She is a fully qualified Veterinary Nurse having completed her Certificate Iv in Veterinary Nursing at Bankstown Tafe. Tara is interested in surgery and often assists in our orthopaedic surgical cases.

In her spare time Tara enjoys spending time with her partner and their fur babies, Bailey the British Shorthair, Benny and Lilly the Rotti crosses.

Keryn

Veterinary Nurse

Keryn joined our team in November 2014 having relocated from her hometown of Melbourne.

She is a qualified nurse having completed her Certificate 4 in veterinary Nursing at Box hill Tafe. Keryn brings with her extensive surgical experience. Her favourite part of the job is helping out with caesarians and meeting all the newborn puppies.

Keryn enjoys going to the beach and spending time with Sam and Eric the parrots.

Elle

Veterinary Nurse

Elle has worked at our busy hospital since she was 15 years old, she is the daughter of our head nurse Belinda. Elle is currently studying Bachelor of Education at University and works with us on a part time basis. She has grown up with animals and thoroughly enjoys working with them at a hospital she has been very familiar with since she was born. She is a great addition to our team with maturity well beyond her years.

Sam

Veterinary Nurse

Sam joined our nursing team as a volunteer back in 2015. She showed so much potential we just had to hire her. She is a fully qualified Veterinary Nurse having completed her studies at Ultimo Tafe. She is a fantastic addition to our team, she is a great team player who shows a lot of compassion toward all our hospital patients.

Sam has 3 very spoilt dogs at home. She is crazy about sausage dogs and has two in her fur family called Olive and Apple they are mini Dachshunds and Rosie the Schoodle.

Jemma

Receptionist

Jemma joined our team back in 2016. She is a fully qualified Veterinary Nurse having completed her studies at Richmond Tafe.

She currently works as one of our full time receptionists, meeting and greeting all our wonderful clients and helping them with pet care advice. She is a great asset to our team. So calm and easy going in even the busiest of times in our hospital. 

We are so happy to have Jemma as part of our team.

In her free time Jemma loves following AFL and travelling. 

Lauren

Veterinary Nurse

Lauren joined our Nursing Team in July 2017. She is a fully qualifed Vet Nurse and came to us with 3 years experience at another small animal clinic in Sydney South West. She is a fantastic addition to our team and we are lucky to have her.

Lauren enjoys going to the beach and spending time with family and friends. She has a menagerie of animals at home which keep her busy.

Leisa

Veterinary Nurse

Leisa joined our growing nursing team in August 2018 after working for 8 years in another small animal hospital in Sydneys South West. 

She completed studying her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at Bankstown Tafe in November 2018.

Like many of our nurses Leisa has a true passion for animals. She is extremely caring toward all our patients and treats them as she would her own. 

Leisa is also a registered breeder with Dogs NSW. Her beloved Boxers are a huge part of her life.  She is also a self confessed cat lover with four gorgeous fancy cats of her own.

When she’s not vet nursing Leisa enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their two boys. 

Cynthia

Veterinary Nurse

Cynthia joined our nursing team in June 2018. We are so happy to have her on board, she is a great addition to our fantastic team.

Cynthia is currently studying Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing at Bankstown Tafe. She is due to graduate in July 2019. 

In her spare time Cynthia loves spoiling her gorgeous dogs Marley the Maltese X Shihtzu and Cooper the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Jenny

Kennel Hand

Jenny joined the BHVH team back in September 2007 as our kennel hand. She is a very passionate animal lover. As our kennel hand she starts very early in the morning to ensure that all our patients are walked, fed, have a clean dry comfy bed and gets lots of love and attention. Jenny prides herself on taking care of all our patients as she would her own pets at home.

Jenny enjoys spending time with her large family and shares her home with 8 rescue cats and her gorgeous rescue dog Lulu the Kelpie.

Kristy

Veterinary Nurse

Kristy joined our team as a volunteer in January 2017 after doing some work experience with a mobile zoo. She studied Veterinary Nursing at Ultimo Tafe  and graduated in December 2017.

In June 2018 Kristy started her role as a qualified nurse with us, she loves working with animals especially monitoring them during surgical procedures and during their recovery, She also loves helping deliver puppies during caesarians.

When she is not working with us at the clinic she enjoys playing basketball, going to the gym and bootcamp.

Jessica Holliday

Veterinary Nurse

Jess joined our team in late 2017 as a volunteer. She is an enthusiatic young nurse and we were so happy with her we offered her a part time position as a Junior Nurse. Jess graduated her Certificate IV In Veterinary Nursing at Bankstown Tafe in November 2018.

Jess has a lovely rescue dog named Junior and a collection of feathered friends at home.

Monique

Veterinary Nurse

Monique is one of our Junior Veterinary Nurses, she is a wonderful member of our team, she is enthusiastic and has a soft gentle nature. She is currently studying Veterinary Nursing at Bankstown Tafe which she will finish in July 2019. She loves working with animals, she is a compassionate nurse and we enjoy having her as part of our team. Monique also loves music and hanging our with her friends in her spare time.

Rebecca

Groomer

Rebecca joined our team in December 2014 and has an amazing 30 years of grooming experience.

She is particularly interested in breed specific clips and we are sure that when you will meet her you will be surpsised about her amazing grooming talent.

Rebecca is also a registered breeder of chihuahua’s and shows her dogs regularly. She has bred many champions including her long coat Chihuahua “Archie” who is the top winning Chihuahua in the state and has been for the last 4 years.

Rebecca has many talents as she is also a registered judge for Dogs NSW.

Her furry family also includes her resue cat “Mia” that she obtained through her work at a vet hospital some 10 years ago.

So it is fair to say that dogs and cats are Rebecca’s life!
