Not only do humans need blood transfusions, our pets do too.

We love our animals at Bass Hill Vet and want to give the best care we can to our furry friend.

We are very lucky to have some donor animals in our program, which means we can be responsive to any medical emergency that requires life-saving blood transfusions.

A pet may need a life-saving blood transfusion due to trauma such as a hit by a car, acute bleeding or anaemia, autoimmune diseases, cancer treatment, poisonings or large surgeries needing extra blood.

We would really love the help of our local community and valued patients to be registered on our blood donation list.

For your dog to be a blood donor hero, they must be:

Healthy and up to date with vaccinations, worming, heartworm prevention
Aged between 1–7 years old
Over 14kgs in a healthy weight range.
No history of significant illness
Has never received a blood transfusion
Is a friendly pup
Able to lay still for 5 minutes
Has never been pregnant

For your Cat to be a blood donor hero, they must be:

A friendly cat who is able to lay still for 5 minutes with light sedation
1–8 years of age
Healthy and up to date with vaccination, worming and heartworm prevention
Weigh at least 4kgs in a healthy weight range.
Must be desexed with no previous pregnancies
Never received a blood transfusion
Must be indoors only
No previous significant illness.
